About this Event
Join us for the third annual Conducting Symposium Institute at Laurier (CSI Laurier), a one-day event for music educators and students who want to improve their conducting and rehearsal skills.
Held at the Savvas Chamberlain Music Building on Wilfrid Laurier University's Waterloo, Ontario, Canada campus, participants will learn from presentations, Q&A, and hands-on sessions conducting the Laurier Wind Orchestra and personalised feedback, while expanding your professional network and finding new opportunities to grow as a musician and educator.

Registration closes for participants: Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025 (11:59 p.m.)
Registration closes for auditors: Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025 (11:59 p.m.)
There are two tracks:
Symposium Conducting Participant (cost $165):
- Must have a Bachelor's degree, be in a graduate program, or currently teaching.
- Upload a shareable link to your CV/Resume as well as a shareable link to a 10-minute performance of a piece or movement. Make sure these links are able to be viewed by anyone who has the link.
- Participants will be notified of their admission via email.
If not selected, please consider auditing at the reduced rate. You will receive a refund for the difference between the two rates.
Repertoire - Participants should choose TWO pieces from the following list for the Conducting Sessions:
- Paul Hindemith – March from the Symphonic Metamorphosis (Gr. 5)
- Jodie Blackshaw – Peacedancer (Musicfest B500)
- Donald Coakley – Lyric Essay (Musicfest B400)
- Viet Cuong – Diamond Tide (Gr. 3.5)
- William Himes – Accolade (Gr. 3)
- Adrian Sims – Dance of the Shadows (Gr. 2)
- Hugh Stuart – Three Ayres from Glouchester (Gr. 2)
- Frank Ticheli – Portrait of a Clown (Gr. 2)
- Matt Neufeld – Little Bear’s Lullaby (Musicfest B100)
Once notified of their application's success, successful applicants will be asked to specify their repertoire choices.
Symposium Auditor (cost $80):
- Current undergraduate or graduate degree program, have a college degree, or currently teaching.
- Upload a shareable link to your CV/Resume. Make sure this link is able to be viewed by anyone who has the link.
There is no limit to the number of Symposium auditors.
