Concrete Canvas Returns to Chelmsford for 2026!Chelmsford’s much-loved street art festival, Concrete Canvas, is back this May, bringing a fresh wave of colour, creativity, and community spirit to the city centre.
Organised by Chelmsford For You and local artist Candy Joyce, the project was created to breathe new life into overlooked urban spaces while making art accessible to everyone.
🆕 What’s New for 2026
Since launching in 2022, Concrete Canvas has transformed Chelmsford into a vibrant outdoor gallery. Over 108 murals, created by both local talent and internationally recognised street artists, now decorate walls, bollards, Openreach cabinets, and more.
This year promises over 30 brand-new murals, with artists arriving from Monday 11 May to begin work across the city centre.
Visitors can also drop into the festival hub at Patch in Grays Yard, where you’ll find:
- Artwork and merchandise from featured artists
- Mural maps to guide your exploration
- Live updates on works in progress

🎉 Street Party Finale – Saturday 16 May
The festival wraps up with a lively Street Party starting at 10am, featuring:
- Live street art from 9 artists
- A local art fair (20+ stalls)
- Pop-up vinyl stall from Intense Records
- Interactive Doodle Wall
- Henna body art
- Caribbean food from Island Touch
- VooDoo Keller Bar
- Sweet treats from Vix Cakes
✨ Concrete Canvas: Reimagined
Beyond the city centre, the project continues through Concrete Canvas: Reimagined, a collaboration with Culture Chelmsford and their youth movement SPARK! Young Cultural Changemakers.
Their contributions to the Street Party include:
- DJ sessions by Hotbox Live Events (Bond Street)
- Live window murals along the riverside
- A zine-making workshop led by Hayley Wells (Meadows Shopping Centre)
