Father Thunder is a powerful and immersive program from Concordis, weaving together a striking collection of choral works.Drawing on imagery of oceans, storms, trees and light, the program explores nature not just as landscape, but as a reflection of human experience; its cycles, its beauty, and its fragility. The flowing lines of Waves (Jake Runestad) and the elemental energy of Father Thunder (Laura Jēkabsone) sit alongside works such as Mag die Bome Groen Bly, inviting reflection on the world around us.
Moments of intensity and contrast run throughout the program, from the apocalyptic energy of Dies Irae (Michael John Trotta) and the Australian premieres of both The Destroyer (Seán Doherty) and Sacred Place (Alex Berko), the latter also marking the first time Berko’s music has been performed in Australia.
Father Thunder is a compelling meditation on the environment, community, and the enduring ties between humanity and the natural world.
