About the Building:
The Urban Ecology Center’s Washington Park branch underwent a major renovation and expansion with its grand reopening in early 2025. The updated facility transforms the former boathouse into a purpose-built environmental education and community center that more than doubles the space and capacity for programming, allowing UEC to serve many more students, families, and visitors through expanded classroom spaces and learning environments
The building itself features multiple floors of flexible space, an observation tower with panoramic views, and interior environments designed to blend nature-inspired learning with community gathering areas. It supports a range of activities, including structured environmental education, and connects directly to the surrounding park landscape, including trails and the lagoon. As the first fully electric building of its kind in Milwaukee, the Washington Park branch underscores UEC’s commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
