A warm invitation to join us for THE QUEST!
Let us immerse ourselves together in the depths of ancient and contemporary Persian mystical poetry and embark on a journey into the depths of our inner selves. Our guides on this journey are poets who know how to live with a heart that is alive, loving, and yearning, and who celebrate this way of being.
Our music is an attempt to create a bridge between the classical music of Iran and the medieval music of Europe. From ethereal soundscapes and voices to the exhilarating rhythms that have been passed down from generation to generation, we seek to evoke and reflect the many states and realms of the human soul. May we experience them together, beyond time and beyond words, in the here and now, in a moment of unity.
Mirjam Widmann, VOCALS, CLARINET, GUITAR professional singer in Berlin State Opera Chorus, passionate for Bach, Early Church Music & Minimal Music, acquainted with Jazz, Gospel and various instruments during her musical journey, attracted to Persian mystical poetry, language and culture both by the spiritual undertow and humanistic ethics as well as close family ties.
Farhang Habibi, TAR began his musical journey in 1992 by studying the Radif, the oldest traditional school of Tar playing. His approach to the Tar evolved as he began exploring a freer playing style, inspired by the innovative techniques of the legendary Farhang Sharif. Deeply inspired by the mystical and ecstatic dimension of Persian poetry, he improvises and composes pieces rooted in the musical tradition of Iran, while exploring new horizons through encounters and dialogue with other musical traditions from around the world.
Emmanuel Cartal, RECITATION, PERCUSSION has spent decades contemplating and translating Persian mystical poetry into French, after first getting in touch through listening to an album by Leonard Cohen in 1979. Ever since, he regularly attends and plays Daf in Persian music sessions.
