BlacKLisT Bio:
BlacKLisT is an AfroPunk NeoSoul band with classical and contemporary influences ranging from Radiohead and Regina Carter to Ma Rainey and Miles Davis. They are: rage, love, and revolutionary defiance in a trance state. In the grand scheme of the universe, vibrations never stop moving, never stop grooving. our music is our resistance. The stage is our battlefield. Claimed by Oshun, senayit tomlinson is the heart of the band. with her 11-string acoustic, double cut-out electric guitars and haunting vocals, she has written and produced eight albums over the course of her career. based on unceeded Abenaki land in the Northeast, raised in NYC, and of Ethiopian heritage, senayit’s lyrics and music carry her stories, the stories of her ancestors, her daughter, and the spirits of our world. Classically trained violinist and poet, khonsu x, loves to shred a few good bows and ride a tight beat. his style of play is intuitive, free-form, and constantly in search of resonant frequencies. self-made in Philly, khonsu’s vocal flows are informed by his experiences as a queer Black man traveling across Turtle Island, always ending up in the mountains. Raised in the expansive Bronx music scene, spanky roman is a man of many instruments. from salsa to jazz, hip-hop, and reggae, spanky brings a variety of styles into his behind the pocket “hard” feel. when the band freaks out in the breakdown, our lyric and dynamic drummer always finds the groove to bring us home.
Safra Bio:
Safra is a multimedia holistic art form. They practice the art of indigenous storytelling in order to convey the multitude of worlds they exist in. Safra is the shapeshifter, a hybrid of “GodHeads”. She transforms herself into her primordial state, her first incarnation in which she embodies the divine trans dark feminine. Their movements are an expression of the occult and sacred forms of life beyond the human world and allows herself to not just shape-shift her physical body but the energies she occupies and all those who witness. Safra is a primordial messenger, she is an ancestor of the African Sibyl or Prophetess. She utters with her sacred heca ancestral messages to enable a global spiritual intervention. She stakes claim to the body she lives in and land she lives on in order for black/indigenous peoples to reclaim sovereignty and healing for themselves. Safra is an activist and focuses on being a love-body to the world, medicine woman of dark light and deep truth, reinforcing the ushering of a Matriarchal future.
