Concert: A Century of Jewish Composers with the Sylvan Winds

The SYLVAN WINDS is coming to Eldridge Street to celebrate the proud history of Jewish composers, from the 1920s to the 2020s!

Hailed by The New York Times for "…its venturesome programming and stylishness of performance," the Sylvan Winds will perform their renditions of pieces from Jewish composers of the last 100 years, from Czech composer Pavel Haas, who perished in the Holocaust, to Klezmer Revival numbers by Gene Kavadlo, to crowd favorites from George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein, to contemporary Jewish composers Jan Radzynski and Zvi Avni.

Join us in the Museum at Eldridge Street’s historic Main Sanctuary on Sunday, November 24th at 3pm for an ode to the Jewish contribution to the world of music.

About the Sylvan Winds:

The Sylvan Winds has appeared under the auspices of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, and the Caramoor International Music Festival. Chosen to perform at the NY Governor’s Arts Awards, the ensemble has presented imaginative and scintillating programs of chamber works for winds in such places as Town Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and at music festivals in the White Mountains, Cape Cod, and Skaneateles, NY. They have also presented at Rutgers University’s Summerfest, Amherst College, the Chicago Chamber Music Society, and the Sejong Cultural Center in Seoul, Korea. They have recorded for the Koch Classics, CRI/New World, North/South, and Albany record labels, and have enjoyed collaborations with such distinguished artists as Gerard Schwarz, Ransom Wilson, the Guarneri String Quartet, pianist Claude Frank, radio personality Robert Sherman, and actor Louis Zorich. The ensemble recently celebrated its 45th Anniversary.
