Compost for a Greener Tomorrow: DIY Compost Build
Advertisement
Help us build the OKC Farmers Market District's new Compost Education Site at Crosses Caps!
Join the OKC Farmers Market District, Oklahoma County OSU Extension, and the Oklahoma Compost & Sustainability Association (OCASA) for a hands-on volunteer day where we'll construct our three-bin compost system and create a permanent community resource for compost education.
Whether you're brand new to composting or have years of gardening experience, this is a great opportunity to learn, connect with fellow community members, and make a lasting impact.
Together we'll build the compost bins, add the first layers of compost materials, and prepare the site for future workshops and demonstrations.
? Volunteer Activities:
• Build and assemble the compost system
• Fill the bins with compost materials
• Learn composting basics from local experts
• Help create a new educational space for our community
? Help Feed the Compost!
If you'd like, bring compost-friendly materials such as:
• Dry leaves
• Shredded paper or cardboard (no glossy paper)
• Straw or hay
• Fruit and vegetable scraps
• Coffee grounds and filters
• Plastic-free tea leaves or tea bags
• Garden trimmings or weeds (without seeds)
✅ We'll Provide:
? Gloves
?️ Tools
? Water and light refreshments
? Compost education
? Free compost for participants (while supplies last!)
? Friday, August 21
? 8:00 AM (Come for as much or as little time as you're able!)
? Crosses Caps
1305 SW 2nd St., Oklahoma City
Together, we're closing the loop by turning food scraps into healthy soil and creating a lasting educational resource for our community. We hope you'll join us! ??
