About this Event
MORE INFO Join us for 6 FREE training sessions to learn about compost and to become a Compost Champion!
Donations Welcome
This is for you if you are interested in community composting, enjoy learning and working with others and want to contribute to climate resilience and sustaining soils. Join this training series to learn together about why we compost and to find out how you can contribute to soil building in Woodlands Community Garden.
The sessions will involve both knowledge exchange and practical workshops and will cover an introduction to the community composting process at our Community Garden site.
Find out the challenges of community composting and get involved with improving and operating our new composting system. Following the training sessions we hope to form a dedicated volunteer group to champion the composting process.
The knowledge exchange sessions will cover topics such as why we compost, the compost cycle, soil science, living organisms in the soil, types of organic matter, the importance of peatlands and why peat free compost is important. We will explore why composting is important for local communities and the climate and discuss what can be done at home by composting on a small scale.
This event will take place at Woodlands Community
Monday evening indoor sessions at Woodlands Community Meeting Room and Events Terrace, 66 Ashley Street, G3 6HW
Sunday afternoon outdoor sessions at Woodlands Community Garden, 91-101 West Princes Street, G4 9BY
It is not necessary to attend all 6 training sessions, however by attending as many sessions as possible in the series we hope to foster the development of a local Compost Club formed of Compost Champions!

Accessibility:
For the Monday evening indoor knowledge exchange sessions: Woodlands Community Meeting Room is fully wheelchair accessible. The path from the main entrance on Ashley St has three steps, but there is a side entrance (gate) via the lane that is ramped and fully accessible. The inside of the building is all on one level and has a wheelchair accessible toilet.
For the Sunday afternoon outdoor practical sessions: Woodlands Community Garden is working towards being an accessible and inclusive space for all. However, currently parts of the garden are more accessible than others. In particular there is an uneven surface with steps to access the compost bays. If you would like to take part in the practical training sessions and have any accessibility requirements, please let us know in advance or on the day and we will do our best to accommodate everyone's needs.

We are grateful to funding from Hoare Lea and Glasgow Climate Action Hub for this programming.
