Interested in community composting? Want to contribute to climate resilience and sustaining
our soils? Want to learn about why we compost and contribute to a sustainable community garden?
The practical sessions will cover an introduction to the Ridan Composter - how to use,
process waste and how can we improve? Find out the challenges and problems of composting while designing a new composting structure, system and new volunteer group to champion the process.
Theory sessions to include:
The indoor theory sessions will cover topics such as why we compost, the compost cycle,
soil science, organisms, types of organic matter, peatlands and peat free composting, why
composting is important for local communities and the climate.
We will also cover home composting on a small scale, what goes into a home system, what
products to buy, different types and uses or organic matter in your garden.
This event will take place in two locations of Woodlands community
meeting room, 66 Ashley St and in our Community garden.
About
Woodlands garden has been running since 2018 and is part of the
Woodlands Community. They run free garden and climate related
volunteering sessions and events every other Sunday afternoon and Monday evenings in the summer months.
It is not necessary to attend all 6 sessions however it is benifical to foster the development of a Compost Club in the future formed of Compost Champions!
