Aimed at inclusivity, we warmly invite all those interested in topics surrounding microtonality. Our session is aimed at sharing new music, old music, historical music or works in progress that deal with microtonality, just intonation and the like. It’s an opportunity to raise questions
and stimulate dialogue towards feedback and new insights from friends and colleagues.
About:
The ongoing symposium series is an open and accepting community space where musicians, composer, creatives and thinkers of various kinds can together discuss and embody microtonality and its application to the wider world.
The symposium uses the term “microtonality” in a broad multi-cultural sense that can span topics of say “world music”, just intonation, acoustics and the scientific, psychological, sociopolitical and ecological perspectives that surround the topic.
Although there is no limit or agenda as to what ideas are discussed, there is however a general interest in how music can foster greater holism, interconnectedness and multi-cultural
outreach.
Each session will be “curated” or “led” by a specific artist/speaker so as to bring a particular inquiry into focus. The subject can then be opened up for group discussion and dialogue.
The symposium is organized by Canadian composer/pianist Matt Choboter and Persian composer/tar player, Matin Peymani.
If you would like to participate, lead a session, or reach out with a question, concern or suggestion please reach out to: Matt Choboter ([email protected]) or Matin Peymani
