Shell's Feed & Garden Supply is your destination in the City of Tampa for Urban Farming supplies like soil, seeds, and soil amendments, as well as for raising animals! Today we're talking about urban farming, backyard chickens and gardens, and the easy sustainability practices related to these topics that you can do in your own spaces. Urban farming has a wide scope and covers many topics, such as container gardening - like the EarthBOX - and making green spaces even on the roof of your apartment buildings and office towers. Backyard chickens and kitchen gardens are all about growing your own healthy food, so that next time the grocery store shelves are bare (remember early 2020?) you won't have to worry - your vegetables and protein are in your back yard! The easy urban/suburban sustainability practices are practical journeys into the various forms of composting and reusing what you can - creating less waste bound for the landfills to decrease your carbon footprint. Join us for a discussion of these various topics and how we can help you here at Shell's to realize your gardening and farming dreams, and to learn more about us, please visit shellsfeed.com to find out more.
Marissa Byrum is the Director of Communications for Shell's Feed & Garden Supply located in Tampa, Florida, is a today's guest on the Sustainable Living Radio show. As the person in charge of marketing and community outreach for Shell's, she has the privilege of interacting with the community on behalf of the store. Shell's Feed & Garden Supply is so excited to be celebrating 60 years as a family owned and operated business this year serving the Tampa Bay community, and as the needs of the population around us have changed, our store has adapted and brought in new things to help backyard gardeners, farmers, and pet owners too, while still maintaining that nostalgic feeling of stepping in to yesteryear. We love it when several generations of a family visit us and we hear stories of how their parents brought them here as kids to see the live animals, and now they're here with their kids to do the same thing. Marissa has been a gardener for most of her life, learning from her Dad when she was a young girl, and while she wouldn't consider herself an "expert", she has practical knowledge that she's happy to share!
