Community Tree Care: Brentwood Reservoir

Join Casey Trees for a fun day of service around Brentwood Reservoir!

We will be mulching some of our newly planted tree around the park.

Your help with weeding, mulching and watering these vulnerable trees will give them a leg up in becoming an important part of our growing tree canopy.

You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to care for trees. Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will split up into groups and begin caring for trees throughout the park.

Register now! The day before this event, we will send a logistics and directions email with detailed information about how to get to the site. You will receive this email ONLY if you are signed-up for this event.

Requirements

Register: Register in advance. If your plans change prior to the event, please update your registration status so we are sure to have the necessary number of volunteers.

Waiver: All volunteers must pre-register and sign a completed volunteer waiver form BEFORE participating in the Tree Care event.

Youth Volunteers: Youth volunteers may participate with an adult supervisor .

Clothes and shoes: Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. We recommend long pants and other protections for sun, bugs and poison ivy. Please wear closed toed shoes, boots are preferred over sneakers.

Skills: No specific skills or tools required. Each event starts with a tool safety and planting demonstration. Volunteers work alongside experienced staff.

Water: Bring a full water bottle!

Food: No food will be provided on site; please bring your own if you would like to eat during the event.

Animals: No animals are allowed at the event except for service animals.

Getting There

Brentwood Reservoir can be found at the intersection of Brentwood Parkway NE, Mt Olivet Rd NE, and 9th St NE (looks like a big open field on google maps).

Parking: Limited parking available. Street parking is available on Brentwood Parkway NE. Carpooling is encouraged to reduce the number of vehicles. Volunteers can also park at Union Market and walk over, just under a 20 minute walk.

Bike Parking: Bikes can be locked to nearby signs.

Public Transportation: Noma is the closest metro rail stop, about a 19 minute walk from the site. The nearest bus lines are: Mt Olivet Rd NE & 9th St NE served by bus D8 and Brentwood Pkwy NE & Penn St NE, served by buses 90 and X3.
