Community Sundays: Blank Canvases

This August, YZD partners with Blank Canvases to deliver artist-led workshops that introduce young participants to creative techniques.
About this Event

Through supportive, hands-on instruction, participants explore art as a tool for imagination, storytelling, and self-expression.

Each session encourages kids to experiment with new materials and perspectives, building confidence while creating their own original works.

Schedule:

• August 2 – Flying Creatures & Fantastical Machines | Inspired by Tonya Hart, participants design imaginative flying creatures and machines, combining creativity with bold visual storytelling.
• August 9 – Build Your Own City: Urban Design Studio | Inspired by Chris Walsh, participants design their own urban communities, exploring architecture, public space, and creative placemaking.
• August 16 – Toronto Fashion Lab: Design Your Own Look | Inspired by Meera Sethi, participants create original fashion designs, experimenting with pattern, colour, and personal style.
• August 23 – Whimsical Animals & Dreamlike Worlds | Inspired by Katrina Schaman, participants illustrate imaginative animals and surreal landscapes filled with colour and character.
• August 30 - Print Studio: Relief Block Printmaking | Inspired by inPrint Collective, participants carve and print their own designs, discovering pattern, repetition, and printmaking techniques.

Program Details:

• Location: YZD Experience Centre, 34 Hanover Road
• Cost: Free
• Age: 4 - 15; Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
• Class timeslots: 12:15 - 2:15PM & 2:45 - 4:45PM
• Experience level: No previous experience required

Please note:

• Spots will be held for 10 minutes before they are given to someone else. Be sure to arrive on-time.
• Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
• Parents accompanying a child who will not participate in programming need not register.
• Only one (1) parent permitted to accompany each child.
• All guests who intend to participate in programming need to register.
