Community Song Circle at SOLCA

Come sing with us at one Song Circle or many!
No experience necessary. All voices welcome.
Songs are taught and learned in the oral tradition by a designated song carrier. A song carrier teaches songs by singing them line-by-line so singers can repeat each line until the whole song/parts of a song are learned well enough to sing the whole song together. It is always amazing how quickly a group of singers can learn a song without having to use lyric sheets or music!
What to Expect:
-Gathering (seated in a circle)
-Opening song
-Brief welcome/orientation
-Opening activity- this often includes going around the circle to say or sing your name
-Learning & singing 8-12 songs
-Announcements or reminders
-Closing song
Fall Schedule:
Evening Circles – First Thursday of the month
7:00–8:30 PM
Sept 1, Oct 1, Nov 5
Afternoon Circles – Third Thursday of the month
4:00–5:30 PM

Meet Your Song Carrier:
Hella Wartman is our SOLCA song carrier. She has led song circles in Duluth and the Twin Cities for the past 10 years. Hella carefully chooses songs that are being shared by song circles across the globe and that are accessible for anyone to sing, including rounds, call & response, chants, layered songs, and unison pieces. Hella also focuses on seasonal themes and songs that build connection, belonging, and a sense of well-being.
