Community Sing with Karenna Slade

Singer-songwriter brings her exuberant, fun-loving creativity from Sonoma County. “We will all come together and be creative and plaaaaaay!” Handheld percussion instruments are welcome for improvisation. The song list is here. This event is limited to 25 participants and lasts for 90 minutes.

encourages both the timid and bold to join her: “We will sing songs of peace and community (folk, pop, blues; see lineup below), do some rounds, and improvisational singing. It will be fun and accessible.” Feel free to bring an instrument or a song to share. Karenna is a performer and creativity coach who has led others through “The Artist’s Way.” Get a creativity boost in this super-supportive session. Karenna will teach all the songs. They are easy to catch onto, and she’ll will have printed words for some. She’ll bring her ukulele and a shruti box, “which is a very cool Indian instrument, that makes a drone.” She may also treat everyone by signing a couple songs of her own.

has studied voice, musical theater, improv, clowning, burlesque and is passionate about creating music and song. Her original music is feminist, bold, body-positive, and tells stories from all the deep parts of her soul… and sometimes will make your face hurt from laughing. She has been the front woman of all-female rock raunch band Snail Trail and a longtime company member of SF's infamous clown drag dance troupe, Fou Fou Ha! In the lockdown of 2020, Karenna took a deep dive and began preparing for a solo career.

As someone who has studied therapy for trauma, expressive arts, and somatic therapies, Karenna believes creativity and joy are crucial to healing. The arts are not reserved for the gifted few; they are part of humanity and a necessary experience for all of us.
