Community Sing is an open, drop-in choir for everyone in the community. It's free and open to all! No registration required. February's session is 'Irish Song & Storytelling' with Breda McCarthy. In our February Community Sing session, participants will explore Irish song and storytelling, with insight into sean-nós, one of Ireland’s oldest musical traditions. Through call-and-response, singers will learn a piece aurally, experiencing firsthand how traditional music was passed down through generations in Ireland.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR: Breda McCarthy is an Irish musician, vocalist, and arts professional with over 10 years of experience performing, teaching, and curating music and arts experiences. Originally from Cork, Ireland, Breda is a graduate of the Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick. She spent time working at the Irish Institute of Music and Song and at The Lark Concert Hall before calling Aotearoa her home in February 2025. Now the Programmes Lead at Te Atamira, Breda has the privilege of working alongside the Te Atamira team to bring high-quality, engaging arts experiences to the Wakatipu Basin.
