Community Sewing Social + Financial Literacy

Join us for a hands-on Sewing & Financial Literacy Social, where youth (ages 6+) and adults will learn to sew a Minnesota Silhouette Pillow while gaining essential financial literacy skills! This interactive class teaches the importance of saving money, understanding financial responsibility, and using sewing as a trade skill to create and sell handmade goods.

Financial literacy is a lifelong skill that should start early. Teaching children as young as six about saving, spending wisely, and planning for the future helps them develop smart money habits that will serve them well into adulthood. Many kids receive money from birthdays, allowances, or small jobs, but without guidance, they may not understand the power of saving for bigger goals rather than spending impulsively.

By combining sewing with financial education, we show youth and adults how a creative skill can be a pathway to financial independence. Whether saving for a special purchase, learning budgeting skills, or starting a small business, this class will help participants see the value in turning a craft into income.

Sewing is more than just a hobby—it’s a marketable trade skill that has supported artisans, fashion designers, and entrepreneurs for generations. Learning to sew handmade, unique items allows individuals to:

In this session, participants will not only make their own Minnesota Silhouette Pillow but also discuss pricing, cost of materials, and how to determine profit—essential knowledge for anyone looking to turn sewing into a source of income.

To keep the experience engaging and hands-on, we are limiting each class to 20 participants. Registration is required, and each person may reserve up to 2 tickets. All attendees must be registered with their full name, age, and a valid email address.
