About this Event
In this hands-on workshop, we’ll take Together-together* down from the gallery wall and come together around the quilting frame to begin stitching the quilt’s three layers. Artist Carlee Latimer believes quilts are powerful tools for storytelling and experimentation, and this session invites you to be part of that evolving story.
As we stitch, we’ll explore different ways of learning, listening, and sharing with one another—allowing the quilt’s vision to emerge collaboratively. Whether you love making quilts, talking about them, or are simply quilt-curious, there’s a place for you here. No sewing experience is needed!
For this workshop only: We’ll be joined by Ryan Dostal and Reba Luiken from the Allen Centennial Garden for a natural dye demonstration. We’ll watch the process of naturally dying the floss that will be used to complete Together-together over the course of the exhibition.
*Together-together is a collaborative, evolving quilt project by Carlee Latimer, featured in . Throughout the exhibition, visitors are invited to interact with the piece by completing the prompt “Quilts Are… ____” using interchangeable letters displayed in the gallery. Each response will be temporarily spelled out in the quilt’s pockets and captured with a Polaroid—becoming part of its ongoing story. These contributions will eventually be incorporated into the final version of the quilt.
