Volunteers are needed to help restore a natural bioretention pond by removing invasive plants and planting natives during a community event.
About this Event

Volunteers are needed to help us with Phase 2 of a community restoration project at the Land O' Lakes Recreation Complex hosted by UF/IFAS Extension Florida Sea Grant with Pasco County Public Works. The project will focus on the restoration of a stormwater retention pond to restore habitat and actively reduce nutrient loading. Volunteers will help to remove invasive and nuisance plant species from the pond and help to plant native Florida plant species along the pond's edges. We welcome adult and youth volunteers! (Youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).

*Note volunteers will likely get wet and dirty! Wear clothes you are okay with getting messy. Please plan on arriving at 8 am to get started with the group, we may finish early!

Volunteers will be provided with snacks (light lunch) and drinks for their help in the project!

We recommend bringing the following: Sunscreen, refillable water bottle, closed-toed shoes (that can get wet); waders (if you have them), extra shovel (we will have some)

May 3rd- Community Pond Restoration Event Phase 1

This project is a part of the UF/IFAS Extension Florida Sea Grant Pasco County grant provided by the Tampa Bay Estuary Program Bay Mini Grant and the Tarpon Tag. The project is focused on reducing stormwater pollution in our watersheds through education and hands-on projects. In-person seminars before and after the pond workshop are being offered to support this project. In the classes, you will learn about solutions you can adopt at home or in your community to help reduce stormwater pollution and restore natural systems. We will discuss stormwater pollution sources, environmental impacts, and nature-based solutions that you can use to help protect our watershed. We recommend you attend one of the classes before or after you volunteer with this project! We offer both adult and youth classes.
