Community Poetry Open Mic
About this Event
join us! on the first wednesday of every month at North Star Lounge in Ann Arbor, we gather for an open mic rooted in poetry, storytelling, community, curiosity and a little bit of courage.
you’ll hear all kinds of voices here — page poets, poets coming off the page, spoken word artists, storytellers, writers experimenting with rhythm and sound, and even folx blending poetry with music.
come read. come listen. come be curious.
you do not have to be a poet to belong here!
psst… you might be one, though.
this is a performance space where you do not have to perform. come as you are. settle in. listen deeply. laugh. breathe. relax. enjoy a tea, a cocktail, or some delicious vegan eats. let somebody else’s words find you.
we get a lot of folx who show up absolutely certain they are only going to listen. often they end up at the mic too! perhaps there’s something about being in a room where people are sharing honestly that makes courage a little more contagious.
throughout the evening, we also make room for connection— our hosts facilitate discussions about writing, creative process, what it means to move through the world as a poet, and whatever seems to be moving through the room that night.
somehow, without planning it, themes always emerge: grief. desire. food. breath. endings. beginnings…
there is something so powerful about realizing there is really nothing we are carrying all alone. and for a little while in this space, we consciously hold things together.
come to share, to listen, to feel, to get inspired! or simply to be.
you are welcome here.
FREE.
hosted by spoken word artist cat h. bradley & poet Forrest Hejkal
