Community Music Day 2026
About this Event
Every year, Crowden School opens its doors to the community for a day filled with free hands-on music experiences for children. There will be a Chamber Orchestra concert designed for very young children with several seatings and a number of hands-on experiences with instruments.
Instrument Petting Zoo
Ever wanted to bow a violin or try out a cello? Get hands-on with instruments from across the orchestra. Crowden's student "Zookeepers" are here to help you try your first notes-and yes, we have pint-sized instruments for our littlest visitors!
Very First Concerts With the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra
Designed specifically for infants through age seven (and their grown-ups!), these relaxed 20-minute performances invite kids to dance, and listen up close.

Early Music With Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra
Participants are invited to ‘compose’ music with PBO by decorating a strip of music staff paper. What does a scribble sound like? Draw your own musical picture and hear PBO musicians play your composition!
Interactive sessions scheduled throughout the morning.
Live Stage Performances
Catch live sets across campus from Crowden students, faculty, alumni, and East Bay Center for the Performing Arts. From young beginners to seasoned pros, there's always something new on stage.

Instrument Crafting
Turn household materials into working musical tools! Kids can craft, tune, and decorate their own custom instrument to test out at the event and take home afterward.
Face Painting & Prizes
Add a splash of color to your day with face painting and family-friendly activities. Every child who attends Community Music Day gets a special souvenir to take home!
