Community Meetup: Solving Housing in Shreveport

Join us on Saturday, July 18th, the Shreveport Forward group will meet for our twenty-first gathering, from 10 a.m. to noon at the LSUS University Center.
Shreveport has a housing problem. Too many residents who want to own a home can't get there. Too many lots in our core neighborhoods sit empty. We think there's a way to begin changing that. This month, we're sharing what we've been working on.
Shreveport Forward has been developing Project Starlight, an initiative to build new homes in disinvested Shreveport neighborhoods and make ownership accessible to residents of all means. We'll walk through the ideas behind it, the progress we've made, and the questions we haven't answered yet.
What we'll explore:
- Why homeownership is out of reach for so many Shreveport residents and what the numbers actually show.
- How new infill construction on vacant lots could change that
- What a new development model looks like and why it matters
- Where we are, what comes next, and what we still don't know
This is a conversation, not a pitch. We want your questions, your skepticism, and your perspective.
