About this Event

What happens when you experience a performance without sight?

On June 20, ShaLeigh Dance Works invites you inside the creative process of enVISION: Beyond, a disability-led dance-theatre project exploring accessibility as artistic innovation.

As part of this special Community Laboratory, 20 audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a private, one-on-one immersive performance experience. Guided by a trained Movement Mentor, participants will journey through an eight-minute multi-sensory performance using touch, sound, movement, storytelling, and interactive participation.

Together, we are exploring how performance can be experienced beyond vision and how removing barriers can create new possibilities for artists and audiences alike.

The afternoon will also feature an informal toolbox sharing, offering a window into the artistic and accessibility practices informing the work, followed by a disability-led conversation with the artists and access experts helping to shape the project.

[ID: Omar González, SDW's longtime violinist and a Panamanian and Puerto Rican musician, performs on a small circular platform while audience participants wearing white eye coverings engage in an immersive multi-sensory experience. In the foreground, DJ Robinson, a Black man and co-director of enVISION: Sensory Beyond Sight, sits among the participants within an individual performance station. Translucent panels and long-exposure photography capture layers of movement throughout the space, creating blurred traces of performers moving between audience members. The image conveys enVISION's exploration of perception, sensory awareness, and connection beyond sight.]
