Join us for an exciting community project at the Cat to encourage kindness in our neighborhoods! We like to think that Boise is 100% kind. In reality, there are things we could do to take better care of one another and our beautiful city. Helping your neighbors, standing up against racism, not littering, driving safely, adopting a shelter animal...these are just a few examples of ways we can care for our home and community.
Sign up for any of the available low-cost workshops to create artwork based on your interpretation on this theme. We will help you with ideas and encourage everyone to create something unique. Then we'll teach you how to turn your design into a print (foam or linocuts, based on age and ability), creating multiple copies of your design. You'll get to take home at least one print, and we'll collect some for our city-wide Community Kindness Project. These pieces will be hung throughout the city and become an interactive scavenger hunt for everyone to enjoy!
Designs will be added to our website, and participants will be able to keep track of the pieces they find around town and "collect" each one. Join us at the Gem on August 18 (6-8pm) to vote for your favorites! The top designs will be featured on T-shirts to keep kindness alive in Boise, long after the artwork is gone. The big Scavenger Hunt Release Party is September 24 (1-3pm). The first 50 people to find 10 different pieces hidden throughout the city and post them to Instagram with #communitykindnessprojectboise will receive a FREE T-shirt!
No experience in printmaking is necessary. All ages are welcome. Younger students may need assistance from a supervising adult. Bring the whole family and let's spread the kindness!
