Curious about how your Kansas City government works? Want to learn from City staff how to improve your community? The City’s Community Engagement University: a free, nine-week program designed to connect residents with government to build a better Kansas City.

Why participate in CEU?

  • Gain a better understanding of how local government functions
  • Participate and interact with knowledgeable staff to better learn and understand how City finances, operations, projects and services are developed, distributed and executed

Class schedule and summary:

Nine* sessions beginning September 15, 2026: Sessions are from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays weekly for the duration of the program.

Community Engagement University is a free, hands-on, interactive program for Kansas City, Missouri, residents 18 years of age and older. The sessions cover basic knowledge of the City’s functions and operations. Course materials will be provided during the first session. The class size is limited to the first 40 residents enrolling.

*Nine weeks: In addition to the classroom setting for the scheduled sessions, participants will have tours of various City facilities. Information about the tours, including the dates and times, will be provided during the first session.

Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions to get the most from the program. Participants need to attend seven of the nine sessions to graduate with a certification. If you cannot make it to most of the meetings, please consider taking the course at another time to allow spots for those who can attend. Light refreshments will be provided.

  • Week 7: October 27th- Keep KC Moving
  • Week 8: November 10th - Safe City
  • Week 9: November 17th - Destination KC
