The North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District in partnership with the Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center is excited to offer SW Florida’s first ever CERT training to the deaf & hard of hearing community AND North Collier residents. Thanks to a grant awarded to the Fire District from Volunteer Florida. The training takes place over two full Saturdays. It will give attendees the confidence and basic skills to know what to do when emergency responders are unavailable in an emergency and/or disaster situation.The training is FREE. Classes will be held on Saturday, June 3rd, and Saturday, June 10th, and participants must
attend both classes to “graduate” and receive a certification.
North Collier Fire began its CERT program in 1999 with 12 students in the first class. Since then, North Collier Fire has trained over 1800 residents to be prepared. The training includes basic disaster response skills such as triage; first aid; fire safety; light search and rescue; active shooter, and more. Fully trained CERT members are expected to be able to assist others following an incident when professional responders are not immediately available.
The grant from Volunteer Florida covers all costs associated with the American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters.
