About this Event
About the Event
Join us for a relaxed, hands-on embroidery workshop where you’ll create a small felt patch inspired by water in the Waterloo Region. The patch you create will become part of a larger community banner for a future public art installation. Everyone who contributes a patch will be recognized in the final artwork.
The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to local water systems in the Waterloo Region, followed by a demonstration of common embroidery stitches for beginners. You’ll then have time to embroider your own square or rectangular patch, with guidance available throughout.
This in-person workshop is welcoming to both beginners and experienced embroiderers. Expect a cozy morning of stitching, conversation, tea, and reflection.
What to Expect
- Embroidery guidance in a supportive environment
- All materials provided (felt, embroidery thread, needles, and scissors)
- Light snacks, refreshments, and tea provided
- A welcoming space to make something meaningful together
About the Artist
The workshop is led by Thea Taylor (@thea.tsw), a Waterloo‑based hand embroidery artist and water resources engineer-in-training. Through Banner of Water Stories, she brings together her love of slow, tactile making and her work in water systems, inviting community members to reflect on how water shapes our lives and places.
