Community Dye Bath: Marigold

📍 Location: Slocan Park Fieldhouse, Vancouver, BC

Let’s gather in community to create a marigold dye bath and give fresh life to the textiles we already love.

We’ll be working with garden-grown marigold flowers, celebrated for their golden hues, and exploring natural color shifts using iron and (possibly!) indigo.

IMPORTANT PREP STEP:Join us for Mending Monday on August 18 (6–9 PM), where we’ll mordant all materials ahead of the dye bath. Mordanting is crucial for preparing fibers to receive color and takes 12–24 hours.

Please bring your materials to Mending Monday or arrange to drop them off before August 18. Small items can be slid into our fieldhouse mailbox anytime before the 18th and we will prep them for you (if you can't join on the 18th) . You’re also welcome to mordant your items at home. What to Bring:– Up to three small or medium items (cellulose fibres)– We encourage using what you already have—something thrifted, worn, or well-loved.

Cost:Sliding scale $5–15 per item, based on the Weight of Fiber (WOF). Payment by cash or e-transfer on-site

What’s Included:– A guided marigold dyeing experience– Exploration of color modification with iron and possibly indigo– All dye materials and tools provided

No experience necessary—everyone is welcome. 🌼
