Community Creation Session A Broken Umbrella Theatre

Revolutionary Era New Haven (working title). Our original piece is

inspired by revolutionary New Haven’s historical and radical spirit and

will explore characters like statesman Roger Sherman; Jethro Luke, New

Haven's earliest Black property owner and Benedict Arnold, the infamous

traitor. This story will be performed in a to-be-determined site-specific

location in New Haven.

A Broken Umbrella Theatre artists run creation session to guide groups

through idea generation, research, brainstorming, and playing around to

see what sticks!

Sometimes this looks like we are on our feet and using our bodies.

Sometimes we gather around a table and talk things through.

It is usually a mix of both. Improvisation, creative story-making, crafting,

writing and beyond!

When you participate in these sessions, your creative contributions will

enter the collective brainstorm of the company. We aren't casting actors,

choosing designers, or assigning any identifiable roles/responsibilities at

this point in our process. FIRST, we collaborate on initial ideas sans egos

or ownership. Come to play, contribute, eat snacks and get your art on.
