The idea for a costume exchange is about a community acting sustainably, producing less waste and consumption, not more. Halloween is a very environmentally harmful and financially wasteful holiday. 83% of all costumes that are sold are made of polyester and plastic that doesn't break down for 20 to 200 years. About 94% of households with children are going to purchase a new costume this year. 4 in 10 costumes are only worn once. Halloween also generates a lot of plastic waste in the form of candy wrappers, decorations, and plastic tableware. It is estimated that each trick or treater contributes to 1 lb of trash each year. Interesting but scary facts!Drop offs of costumes and accessories could be for the next two weeks at the Firth Youth Center or the Phillipsburg Free Public Library. New-to-you costumes can be chosen during the Farmer's Market on October 4.
Thank you for participating in this event.
