Community Conversation on Suicide Awareness and Prevention

Come join us for a crucial discussion on suicide awareness and prevention at Westminster Presbyterian Church. This in-person event aims to create a safe space for individuals to share their stories, ask questions, and learn about resources available in our community. Let's come together to break the stigma surrounding mental health and support one another. Your presence can make a difference!

The evening’s program will include insightful presentations from Glynis Cassis, a licensed clinical social worker, along with David Krause and Kelvin Young, Recovery Support Specialists with lived experiences, who will share their personal journeys and expertise on healing. Attendees will learn about the facts and myths surrounding suicide, recognize warning signs, discover how to intervene to help loved ones, and experience the power of sound healing as a tool for recovery.

“We believe this Community Conversation is a crucial step toward breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and equipping our community with the knowledge, tools, and resources to support one another,” said Diane Smith, Westminster’s Community Hub on Mental Health Coordinator.

The detailed program will feature conversations on the clinical aspects of suicide prevention, an opportunity to hear from individuals who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and a powerful sound healing session designed to foster resilience and recovery. This community conversation intended for individuals aged 12 and older aims to provide a safe, informative space for participants to engage in important conversations and gain valuable resources on suicide awareness and prevention.

The Community Conversation, followed by a complimentary community dinner from Restaurant Bricco, will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford, CT where there is ample parking.
