Community Climate Ambassadors training - Brayton Community Centre

Do you want to help the places and people in the Selby District be greener and more sustainable? If so, but you don’t know where to start, this course is designed for you! Now more than ever we need people with the knowledge and tools to act locally, so we're providing free training and support to turn our climate ambitions into action.

Run over 3 sessions (2 hours per week), this enjoyable and informative course will equip you with the knowledge and tools to lead environmental initiatives and contibute to the Our Zero Selby project.

• background to climate change and UK policies and targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions
• the importance and benefits of community action
• understanding your own carbon footprint and that of your organisation or community
• hearing about local climate projects and initiatives to inspire action
• identifying possible areas of action for your home, organisation or community
• how to engage others and secure wider support
• where to find sources of funding and practical support

You will leave the course with a practical action plan that you can take forward, contacts for further support, and the opportunity to stay part of a group of like-minded individuals.

Anyone who lives or works in the Selby District who wants to make a difference locally, including anyone from the following groups:

• Parish or Town Council representatives
• VCSE organisations
• Community groups
• Community building management committees
• Local residents who want to contibute to their community

The 3-session course will be held at Brayton Community Centre (Foxhill Lane, YO8 6TP) on:

• Tues 18th June, 6-8pm
• Tues 25th June, 6-8pm
• Tues 9th July, 6-8pm

NB there is an intentional gap on Tues 2nd July

The course is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Although this specific course is targeted at anyone living or working in the Selby District, we will be running additional courses for anyone in the rest of North Yorkshire from October onwards, including an in-person course in Scarborough and 2 online courses.
