Highway Clean-up
The annual highway clean-up is set to occur on Saturday, May 11. The North Pole Fire Department are on the front lines of the clean-up effort providing trash bags to residents and organizations. Partnering with Aurora Waste Management, they are providing FREE hotdogs to residents stopping by for bags. During these exchanges, the Fire Department will be able to educate residents about the remainder of the North Pole Community’s Make Us Shine clean-up campaign.
Recycling & Repurposing
We are taking the initiative to inspire residents to expand their spring cleaning well beyond just highway clean-up. We are partnering with a number of agencies to stage a one-time, one-stop, special collection point in the North Pole Mall parking lot on Saturday, May 11 from 10am to 4pm. Residents will find agency representatives overseeing various dumpsters and totes, set to collect such things as, old prescription drugs, used eyeglasses, coats, hats & gloves, electronics, various metals, composting materials, and hazardous waste (fluids, batteries, etc.)
Junk Vehicles
Across the greater North Pole community there are several junk cars that speckle the landscape of the community, which project a less than desirable image to our visitors and potential residents. By doing nothing, those junks rust away and negatively impact our environment. For residents that are inclined to get rid of the eyesore, the junk is very likely to end up in the borough landfill, which is already trying to extend its useful life. The North Pole Community Chamber of Commerce has partnered with K&K Recycling (aka Chena Power), local tow truck companies, and the borough to create an incentive and call to action for residents to have the junk towed to K&K Recycling for crushing or other salvage purposes. Tow companies have agreed to set flat tow fees to K&K Recycling.
From May 11-21, North Pole community residents will be able to contact one of the designated tow companies to remove their junk car. Once the tow truck hooks up the vehicle, residents will pay a flat fee of $100. Tow companies will have the option of towing the junk to K&K or keep it for other salvage purposes. Tow companies will then provide the Chamber a tow slip and a check will be cut to them for remaining unpaid tow fee. The Chamber is hoping to make this an annual initiative and plans to gauge its success with a goal of 25-30 junks recycled this year.
Valid for 1 tow per household.
