You are invited to join us for a special dinner to learn about the Community Cafe and how you can make an impact in our community.
OUR VISION: A COMMUNITY WHERE EVERYONE HAS ACCESS TO NOURISHING FOOD AND IS TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT.
OUR MISSION: THE COMMUNITY CAFÉ WELCOMES ALL PEOPLE TO BE NOURISHED IN BODY AND SOUL, REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY.
FAQs
WHAT IS A PAY-AS-YOU CAN RESTAURANT? A restaurant where a suggested price is posted for the meal, but patrons pay what they can or volunteer time for the meal.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANNOT PAY ANYTHING FOR MY MEAL? You will be given the opportunity to volunteer in the restaurant wrapping silverware, sweeping the floor, clearing and cleaning tables, etc.
WHERE WILL THE RESTAURANT BE LOCATED? A convenient downtown Cumberland site is being sought.
WHEN WILL THE RESTAURANT BE OPEN? Thursday through Monday for lunch, 11:00AM to 2:00PM.
HOW WILL THE RESTAURANT BE FUNDED? Through donations and grants as well as through paid meals.
WHAT KIND OF MEALS WILL BE OFFERED? Each day a new nutritious meal will be offered. Meals will be locally sourced as much as possible and prepared fresh each day.
WHO WILL MANAGE/OPERATE THE RESTAURANT? A paid chef and restaurant manager will be in charge of day-to-day activities of the restaurants. Members of civic organizations, businesses, religious groups, and interested citizens will volunteer to assist in food prep and serving the meals.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT? A welcoming and casual place to meet and eat.
WILL THE RESTAURANT OFFER ANYTHING IN ADDITION TO HEALTHY, GOOD FOOD? There will be a community table where people can gather and network. Opportunities to learn food service skills will also be offered.
