About this Event
The Flatbush Junction BID, led by Executive Director Kenneth Mbonu and artist Maxine Hamilton-Alexander, is set to highlight the transformative power of culture and art at the upcoming Community Arts Impact Breakfast on September 29, 2024. The event, taking place at Hillel Plaza, Brooklyn, will feature a diverse lineup of participants, including John Kaiser from Materials for the Arts (MFTA), the Brooklyn Arts Council, and Flatbush YMCA.
A focal point of the event will be the stunning "RainDrops" installation, featuring 250 multicolored umbrellas suspended above the plaza, inspired by Ai Weiwei’s "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors." This installation will set the stage for discussions on how culture and art can spark revitalization, enhance community livability, and shape economic growth.
As cultural issues like immigration, racial diversity, and gender identity become central to political conversations leading up to the 2024 election, the breakfast will explore how art and culture can influence voter behavior and policy. The gathering emphasizes the importance of supporting arts professionals, fostering creativity, and using cultural synergy to fuel neighborhood and business development.
Join this impactful conversation on September 29th and engage with leaders shaping the future of community development through culture and art.
