Definition - What does Satsang mean?

Satsang is a Sanskrit term derived from two roots: sat meaning "true’"and sangha meaning community, company or association.

It can be translated as "associating with good people" or simply "being in the company of truth," and refers to the act of gathering with like-minded, uplifting people, especially those on a spiritual path.

Satsang may also refer to a group of people engaged in a spiritual dialogue. Although the term is generally used to highlight the importance of community on spiritual growth, by definition satsang can additionally be considered as a lone relationship with truth.

Satsang is associated with the inner quality of sattva (goodness or purity), which is one of the three gunas (natural attributes) alongside rajas (passion) and tamas (inactivity).

Sattva manifests as thoughtfulness, wisdom, contemplation and a peaceful demeanor. A sattvic person makes a natural satsangi, or "seeker of truth."

Why is Satsang important for ARTISTS?

At the root of every artists' work is the desire to emote and share the truth of their inherent genius. In order to cultivate truth within our work, we must connect to our creative energy and the most important vibrational frequency, LOVE.

Inspiration translates to being "inspired" or "in spirit." When an ARTIST connects to their truth, they are connected to pure unbounded intelligence, Source, the vibration of all creative life force energy.

The path of the yogi/yogini is no different than that of the ARTIST. Both seek truth. When we are able to come together in a yoga community to share and express truth, to have someone make sense of what is deeper that our sensory perception, we transcend our ego and connect at the level of the heart center, Anahata Chakra.

Connecting here deepens our awareness of pure consciousness and calls forth our Shakti (creative energy) to awaken.

Why is Community important ?

While we are lucky to connect through multimedia, there is an inherent energy that can only be shared when we gather in person. As technology grows, our human connection is constantly being threatened and lessened.

ARTISTS and YOGIS have connected through human interaction for millennia. Building support and true connection at the heart in our rich community will allow us to support each other in our artistic endeavours and most of all, on our healing journeys.
