Community Archives Collaborative (CAC) Zine Launch!

The CAC presents a public reading of our first zine: Archival Origin Stories.

Contributors will be traveling from across the United States, Hawaiʻi, and Mexico to read their submissions in-person.

In the fall of 2024, the Community Archives Collaborative invited a group of community-based archivists to share about their work using the following prompts:

-How did you become involved in archives?

-What is the origin story of your community archive?

-Where and how did it start, and what was the initial vision? Has this vision evolved?

-Are members of the founding group still involved? If not, how do you keep the initial vision alive while adapting to current needs?

-What has your community archive learned about survival?

-What story will future generations tell about your archive?

Contributors chose various formats for their responses, including direct engagement with the prompts, poetry, and short stories.

The CAC is an emerging peer support and resource-sharing network for memory workers, educators, and activists working to honor long traditions of survivance and liberation.

Through mentorship, public programming, and knowledge creation initiatives, the CAC advocates for worlds grounded in collective care and remembrance – for our ancestors, ourselves, and our futures.
