IABC Calgary is kicking off our 2026/27 year with a cross-discipline panel exploring how comms work shifts across sectors and contexts.
About this Event

Communications professionals are some of the most adaptable people in any room, but most of us spend our entire careers in one sector, getting really good at speaking to our primary audience. Comfortable, yes. But the profession is bigger than that: internal communications, media relations, investor relations, Indigenous relations, crisis communications, issues management – the list goes on. Each one demands something different, and most of us only ever get good at one or two.
As we launch our 2026/2027 programming year, IABC Calgary is bringing together communications professionals across different disciplines for a conversation about what this profession really looks like when the context changes.

To celebrate our 60th anniversary as a chapter, we are giving away one free ticket to each event this season. Watch for details on our for how to enter to win a ticket to Communications Across Industries. You must be registered for the event to win.

The panel includes:
Jennifer Chatman: leads communications for CDN, an energy services business, and handles crisis and PR for its US entity CAVIS Energy, where the audience is B2B and the risk profile looks nothing like Stephen's.

Stephen Doolan: Shell Canada's primary media spokesperson, with nearly two decades building the company's stakeholder and reputation strategy across governments, communities and Indigenous groups.

Amy Myer: communications consultant at Collective Communications helps organizations build culture and internal narrative from the inside out.

Julia Perkins: started her career in investor relations before moving into internal communications and knows what it takes to satisfy an analyst and an employee with the same set of facts.
Whether you are early in your career and figuring out where you fit, a seasoned practitioner curious about a different path, or a consultant who already moves between worlds, this one is for you.
