Common Wave's Hi-Fi Night School is back!

Welcome back to our Sophomore year of Hi-Fi Night School. This year we dive back into the diverse world of high fidelity with noted artists, labels, and collectors to share stories and wisdom. All proceeds will go towards local LA Unified School and Music programs.

The System -

The theme of the week is rotary culture, and we can't have that discussion without mentioning the work by David Mancuso and the Loft system. In honor of that famed space we will be installing the new Klipsch Klipschorn AK7 loudspeakers, in their new active configuration, tri-amplified by a combination of Accuphase amplifiers. Our Kuzma Dual Arm XL DC Turntable will remain as the foundation for the analog playback and components from Miyajima, and Nakamichi will complete the system.

Session Two - Cometa

Join us on August 14th as we dive deep into rotary mixer culture with Cometa.

Cometa is a Los-Angeles based design house dedicated to elevating analog sound through precision engineering and timeless design. Its debut product, the M2, is a class-defining audiophile grade rotary mixer inspired by the golden era of high-fidelity and professional club audio. The Educators -

Loren Granich, aka Goddollars, is a second-generation DJ whose deep roots in the city’s music scene stretch from punk rock record shops to dancefloor devotion. As a co-founder of A Club Called Rhonda, Loren helped shape one of the world’s most celebrated and boundary-pushing discotheques. With a background steeped in both underground ethos and high-fidelity sound, his sets reflect a lifetime spent exploring the edges of music and culture.

Spencer Velasquez, aka Daddy Differently, is the Founder and CEO of Cometa Inc. and the voice behind the “Things of Life” radio show on DubLab. A San Fernando Valley native with an ear for the unexpected, Spencer curates genre-defying sets that span Italo disco, house, and experimental sounds. Through Cometa, he’s redefining how we experience analog audio, blending sonic storytelling with forward-thinking design.

Together, they bring a dynamic fusion of music, memory, and cultural experimentation—join us for an evening that celebrates sound in all its forms.
