Common Space is a new screening event focused on curated short films from racialized filmmakers in the GTA. Named after the concept of a shared, communal room, Common Space aims to foster connection and communication in a low-stakes environment. Its conception is built from the hope of giving opportunities to filmmakers to show their work away from the pressures of film festivals, in a more intimate, informal setting.

Common Space’s programs are curated by a team of filmmakers and film lovers from different walks of life. We’re all united in creating opportunities for the film community away from barriers and bureaucracy.

For our inaugural screening, we have curated 4 short films around the theme of ROOTS. Whether its about identity, home, origins – we all have roots somewhere, and these 4 films from emerging and established filmmakers explore how we grow and learn from the people and places we place our roots in.

Following the screening (approx. 1hr), our venue Agenda Cafe + Bar will open up the floor for a mix and mingle. All filmmakers will be present. Please note that this event is open to the public and not limited to just people in the film industry. We’re working hard to ensure this is inclusive for everyone.
