About this Event
Everyday outdoor movement should not feel dangerous. Yet uneven curbs, stepping on and off sidewalks, wet leaves in the garden, and oily street surfaces are among the most common places where serious falls occur. This focused Strong & Stable workshop is designed for adults who want to move outdoors with greater confidence and be prepared when the ground or conditions are unpredictable.
This is not a balance or fitness class. It is skill-building for real-world situations.
In this 90-minute workshop, students will learn practical safer-falling and recovery skills for common outdoor environments. The emphasis is on what to do when footing is lost, how to manage sudden changes in surface or height, how to fall with control, and how to reduce injury if a fall does occur.
Students will learn how to:
- Navigate uneven and broken curbs safely
- Step on and off curbs and walkways with better control
- Manage balance in gardens, yards, and uneven outdoor terrain
- Protect the head, hips, and wrists during unexpected outdoor falls
The goal is to help participants stay active outdoors with greater awareness, confidence, and safety. No prior experience is required.
Space is extremely limited! This workshop is exclusively for adults 55 and older who can get up and down from the ground unassisted.
Strong & Stable is a Judo-inspired safer-falling program developed by Atlanta Judo Midtown. Located right off Cheshire Bridge, AJM has provided high-level judo instruction and taught hundreds of students how to fall safely for over 30 years.
