Join Anne Welsh for Common Cataloguing Challenges, a focused half-day workshop in Bristol for librarians and information professionals, designed to address the complexities that arise in everyday cataloguing.
Cataloguing isn't always straightforward—some materials take minutes to describe, while others require hours of careful analysis and discussion. This workshop will tackle common challenges, including unusual author name forms, ambiguous editions, self-published and privately printed materials, and navigating non-book formats such as maps, audiovisual resources, and artists' books.
Building on foundational cataloguing skills, we’ll explore strategies for analysing and recording complex materials with clarity and consistency.
While attendance at the Beginning Cataloguing Workshop (Frenchay Campus, June 2024) is not required, familiarity with identifying basic bibliographic elements in standard books is recommended.
Participants will receive a link for a MARC cheat sheet and glossary of cataloguing terms to support their learning.
If you’re ready to refine your skills and approach cataloguing challenges with confidence, we look forward to welcoming you.
This course is subsidised by CILIP SW and will cost £30 + vat for members & £40 + vat for non-members
Optional library tour at 2pm.
