Commemorating 250: Immigrant Artists on Resistance, Liberation & Community
About this Event
A commemoration of San Francisco and the United States would be incomplete without immigrant voices. Last year, immigrant rights activist Jose Antonio Vargas released an updated version of his memoir, Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen, with new material for living in Trump's America. Meanwhile, Santa Clara County Poet Laureate Yosimar Reyes wrote a sold-out play, No Llegamos Aquí Solos. Their relationship goes way back, starting as a mentorship––which is key for undocumented immigrant creatives and entrepreneurs––that transformed into a deep friendship and creative collaboration. They understand intimately the need for immigrant artistry in the pursuit of continued resistance, liberation and community. Together, they will explore this need in the modern day, how it has evolved over time, and the role immigrant artists will hold in the future of San Francisco and the United States.
