Commedia dell’arte is a highly physical 16th Century Italian theatre form based in stock characters and improvised scenarios. Learn the building blocks of comedic structure and relationships through character movements, building lazzi (rehearsed bits of comedy), and ensemble play. Most western comedy has roots in Commedia ranging from Shakespeare to Vaudeville to sit-coms. Unlock your potential for physical clarity and more vibrant characters on stage! Suitable for all levels. Skyler Sullivan (He/They) Originally from the East Coast, started off studying at Emerson College where he earned his B.F.A in both Acting and Musical Theatre. After meeting mime, Tony Montanaro, and training at the Celebration Barn Theatre, Skyler’s path changed to physical comedy.. That landed him in San Francisco where he worked with the S.F. Mime Troupe, and trained at the SF Circus Center. He has worked with such companies as: Bread and Puppet, Sesame Street, S.F. Mime Troupe, and The American Mime Theatre. Skyler is also a graduate of the international school of comic acting, focusing on Commedia dell’arte, in Reggio Emilia Italy, and holds an MFA in Acting from Brooklyn College. He is currently the Director of Education and Training for Healthy Humor, a national non-profit bringing joy and clown to hospitalized kids across the country.
