Comfort & Joy

Three years ago, my son and I began collecting Christmas gifts for residents at Haven in memory of my husband, Jim, and my sister, Carol, who both passed away in December 2023. We wanted to turn our grief into something that would bring comfort to someone else.
Each year, we’ve collected new throws, warm socks, slippers, lip balm, lotion, and other small comfort items for local long term care residents.
This year, I’m excited to share that we’re turning this project over to AZ Senior Cares Foundation so it can grow far beyond what the two of us could do alone.
Our goal this year is to provide 100 comfort gifts for residents living in long term care communities throughout the Verde Valley. Every gift will come from the generosity of our community through donated items and volunteers.
My hope is that every person who opens one of these gifts receives something that can’t be wrapped, the comfort of knowing they haven’t been forgotten.
Comfort & Joy is an opportunity for our community to come together, through AZ Senior Cares Foundation in partnership with Montezuma Chapel, to remind our seniors that they are not alone. My hope is that every resident who receives one of these gifts feels the warmth of a community that remembers them, cares about them, and wants them to know they are never forgotten.
