Atomic People is a 90-minute BBC documentary built entirely from the testimony of hibakusha — survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Rather than framing the events through historians or officials, the film lets survivors speak directly about what they experienced and what they have carried in the decades since.

Following the screening, a panel discussion will explore both the historical and present-day dimensions of the film's questions. Panelists include:

Tom Clements, director of Savannah River Site Watch, a public-interest nuclear watchdog organization based in Columbia. Clements has spent decades tracking nuclear weapons production, proliferation policy, and environmental issues at the Savannah River Site.

Dr. Christopher Olaf Tollefsen, professor of philosophy at the University of South Carolina, whose work focuses on natural law theory, the ethics of killing, and just war theory.

The panel discussion will connect the historical testimony in the film to ongoing, present-day questions facing South Carolina, including nuclear weapons production at the Savannah River Site and broader questions about transparency, risk, and public accountability in nuclear policy.
