ABOUT THE SHOW: Discover life as an islander with the story of the 38 planes that were diverted to Gander on September 11, 2001. In a small town on the edge of Newfoundland, thousands of unexpected guests arrive all at once when planes are forced to land and stay put. Built from real interviews, COME FROM AWAY moves quickly, with driving music, overlapping stories, and a huge amount of heart. It is about kindness in the middle of uncertainty, the courage to welcome someone new, and the way a town can become a place to belong almost overnight.
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR:
I cannot tell you how excited I am to bring together an amazing team to tell this story. Come From Away is a story all about coming together in the face of adversity and truly unveils the beauty of the human condition.
I’m sure some of you may have seen recently that this show, new to community theatre licensing, has been produced in some instances with a lack of diversity. Let me assure you that this will not be the case at Center Stage Theatre. Gander, Newfoundland became a haven for international flights grounded during the unprecedented attacks in New York City, and we are committed to ensuring the cast reflects this story of many peoples, cultures and backgrounds finding a shared humanity as they work through the uncertainty and fear in the aftermath of 9/11.
Also, if you are like me and bummed that you can’t do both Come From Away AND The Crucible (at Bay City Players) don’t fret…we are partnering together so that you can audition for both shows on the same week and if you are being offered a role in both shows, you get to choose which one works best for you. I highly encourage you to audition for both productions!
As you go through this packet, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you so much for your interest in auditioning. I hope to see you there! :)
