Auditions are by appointment only and will be held on Wednesday, April 22, from 6-10 pm at Metropolitan AME Church, 309 Frederick Street, Cumberland, MD. Tech rehearsal week is June 22-25, with performances at the Embassy Theatre in Cumberland June 26-28. All those auditioning must be available for that entire week.
Please contact [email protected] to schedule an appointment and receive an audition packet. Also indicate a time preference, if you have one. If you are not able to attend the in-person auditions, we will also accept video submissions.
All those auditioning should prepare a 16-24 bar/30-60 second song selection either from this show or another song that best showcases your range and abilities. A Bluetooth speaker will be provided for you to play a karaoke-style backing track (no lead vocals present). No piano accompanist will be present. You will also read from the script and learn a short, simple dance sequence. Please read the Casting Notes below for more information about who can audition and what will be required, and be aware that this production contains brief adult language.
Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.
CASTING NOTES
• While the original staging of the Broadway production calls for 12 actors to perform all the roles, the current version of the script allows for more than 12 performers, if desired. The creative team will decide the size of the cast and distribution of roles following the conclusion of auditions.
• All performers will be expected to read a brief monologue from the script in a Newfoundland accent. If you are unfamiliar with the finer points of this regional style, we encourage you to listen to the cast recording or watch and practice with this brief YouTube tutorial:

• As all characters in the show are adults, all those auditioning should be age 18 or older as of May 1, 2026. The age ranges listed below are suggestions. We will consider people outside of these age ranges if they show they can portray the required ages well.
• Characters listed with “Other roles” below may not necessarily end up playing all of those roles if the cast is expanded beyond 12 performers.
