About this Event

Join us for an evening of big band style jazz standards from the 1930s, 40s, 50's and more. This show will feature songs like Come Fly with Me, Beyond the Sea, You Make Me Feel So Young, I Left My Heart in San Francisco and more.

This show is presented by the Idaho Jazz Education Endowment. The IJEE promotes live jazz and sponsors concerts and events around Idaho. Their main mission is to offer scholarships to aspiring jazz musicians and educators. To learn more, please visit their website.


Shirley Van Paepeghem- Shirley Van Paepeghem has been performing as a featured jazz vocalist since 1992 performing with big bands and orchestras. Pre-Covid, she performed regularly with Side Street Strutters and Swing Orchestra.

She serves on various state boards for music education as well as the Idaho Jazz Education Endowment. She also conducts the newly formed University Children's Choir at NNU. Shirley performs regularly at the Sun Valley Jazz and Music Festival and Sun Valley Weekend Party. Additionally, she performs with Boise’s Monderaires, Kings of Swing and Essential Jazz. She is also fortunate to perform with her husband Quinn who is head of jazz studies at NNU.



Mike Barriatua- Mike was 6 years old when first inspired by his great-grandmother to sing and play music. By 10, Mike began to singing and playing his ukulele performing songs of the 20S, 30s, and 40s for Veteran’s Hospitals and other school recitals.




Mike continued to play and sing in his band throughout high school.
Mike and his band, Rebels, toured the Bay area the summer of 1966 with the help of his first record.
In 1969, Mike joined a great show group, Pride and Possession. P and P booked out of Boise for 6-month tours within the USA. The band opened for Sugarloaf and War.


Mike has recorded in Salt Lake with his bands, Lock Stock and Barrel, Sun west Recording Studio for Warner Brothers In Los Angeles with his friend Bill LaBounty as a backup singer for his new album.
Mike and his friend, Bob Burgener, completed two Canadian tours in 1978 and 1979.
Mike joined Dino’s house band from 1980 to 1984 in Boise.




Mike retired in 2012, and still plays and sings. Jazz, blues, contemporary and R and B are his favorite music.
Michael is involved with his Basque culture as a member of the Biotzetick Basque Choir.
